After what seems like ages of waiting, HBO Now is finally here! Just in time for Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley (which I'm sure is no coincidence). I am struggling to type this without shaking from excitement. Ever since the announcement that this was going to be a thing, I have been counting down the days without knowing an actual release date. Now I can watch GOT live (maybe) or a day after it airs without hounding my friends for their HBO Go account information, and I can watch as many movies as I can handle, and hopefully get caught up on my Doug Loves Movies challenge.
If you don't know what HBO now is, it is a way to get HBO without needing cable and that pesky bill. From what I understand it is similar to HBO Go, meaning it is a VOD service. There is a chance that it is exactly like HBO Go in the sense that you are able to watch programs live as they air, but I can neither confirm nor deny that. Looking at the app quickly, it does look like it will be more of a VOD service rather than a live streaming service, but only time will tell.
As of right now it appears that this service is only for Apple devices and certain broadband providers, so if you are a droid user, you may be out of luck...but not for long. On the HBO Now site, it does say that they will be expanding to more providers in the near future.
I will be subscribing to this service which runs $14.99/month and let you know in more detail how it works after I use it for a few weeks. Now go get caught up on Game of Thrones, and if you haven't watched Silicon Valley yet, DO IT!
