IRON GIANT

  • Created in 1993. Limited release Aug 3rd then wide release Aug 6th 1999.

  • WB ignores Iron Giant to favor its promotion on Wild Wild West. This means it had basically no exposure to hype to build from.

Set in cold war era 1957, the film is a superhero movie and does such a spectacular job in its mere 86 minute run time. Its a tight film that hits all the beats and goes deeper than its simple synopsis. Its a story adapted from Ted Hughes' The Iron Man. Originally the adaptation was going to be a musical with Pete Townsend of The Who at the helm.

A young boy befriends a giant robot from outer space that a paranoid government agent wants to destroy.
